Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about ScrambleBoss — from basic rules to scoring, streaks, and subscriptions.
Q
What is ScrambleBoss?
ScrambleBoss is a daily word puzzle game where you're given seven scrambled letters and must find as many valid English words as possible. Words can be anywhere from 3 to 7 letters long — all formed using only the letters you've been dealt. A new puzzle drops every day at midnight EST, and every player worldwide gets the same set of letters, so your score is always a fair comparison against everyone else on the leaderboard. Beyond the daily puzzle you can also jump into Quick Play for unlimited practice rounds, or send a VS Challenge link to a friend for a head-to-head matchup on the same puzzle.
Q
How does scoring work?
Points scale steeply with word length to reward players who push for longer, harder words. The breakdown is:
- 3-letter words1 point
- 4-letter words2 points
- 5-letter words4 points
- 6-letter words8 points
- 7-letter words15 points
Notice that a single 7-letter word is worth more than fifteen 3-letter words combined. That's intentional — finding long words is the fastest path to a top-tier score.
Q
What is a perfect game?
A perfect game means you found every valid wordhidden in the puzzle — not a single word was left undiscovered when you hit “I'm Done.” Perfect games are rare, genuinely hard to pull off, and rewarded with a special crown on your profile and in the leaderboard. They also count toward your badge progression (see the badge question below). Finishing a puzzle with a high score is satisfying, but a perfect game means you truly mastered that day's set of letters.
Q
How do streaks work?
Your streak counter tracks how many consecutive calendar daysyou've completed the daily puzzle. Complete today's puzzle before midnight EST and your streak ticks up by one. Miss a day and your streak resets to zero. Streaks are displayed on your public profile page and on the leaderboard, so they're a badge of consistency as much as skill. There's no grace period — the reset happens at midnight EST sharp — so make it a habit to play before bed if you want to protect a long streak.
Q
What is Boss Pass?
Boss Pass is ScrambleBoss's optional subscription at $2.99 / month. It's designed as a supporter tier — you get a better experience, but the game stays fair for everyone. Specifically, Boss Pass members enjoy:
- No ads — clean, distraction-free gameplay
- Extra hints— more hints per puzzle to use when you're stuck
- No hint cooldown — free members wait between hints; Boss Pass skips that wait
- Cosmetic features — exclusive tile color themes and profile badge to show your support
Boss Pass gives no scoring advantage— you can't buy more points or unlock extra words. Every player competes on a level playing field.
Q
How do badges work?
Badges are earned by accumulating perfect games over your lifetime on ScrambleBoss. There are six tiers:
- Scrambler — 1 perfect game
- Word Finder — 3 perfect games
- Puzzle Master — 7 perfect games
- Word Boss — 15 perfect games
- Grand Boss — 30 perfect games
- ScrambleBoss — 50 perfect games (the highest honor)
Your current badge is displayed on your public profile and next to your name on the leaderboard, so other players can immediately see where you rank in the all-time standings.
Q
Can I challenge a friend?
Yes. VS modelets you send a challenge link to anyone. When they open the link, they play the exact same puzzle you played — same letters, same word list — and your scores are displayed side by side when both players have finished. You don't both have to play at the same time; the link stays active so they can complete the challenge whenever they want. VS challenge scores are separate from the daily leaderboard, so they won't affect your ranking.
Q
What dictionary does ScrambleBoss use?
ScrambleBoss uses a carefully curated list of common everyday English words. We deliberately exclude archaic terms, obscure Scrabble-legal words, and highly technical jargon that most players wouldn't recognize. The goal is for every accepted word to be something a fluent English speaker would encounter in ordinary reading. That said, the dictionary is always being refined — if you believe a common word is missing or an obscure word shouldn't be accepted, you can use the feedback button in-game.
Q
Is my score validated server-side?
Yes. All word validation and scoring happens on ScrambleBoss's servers, not in your browser. Modifying the JavaScript running on your device or intercepting network requests cannot give you a higher score or add words you didn't actually find. Every submitted word is verified against the server's dictionary, and the final score is calculated and stored server-side. This means the leaderboard you're competing on is genuinely fair.
Q
When does the daily puzzle reset?
The daily puzzle resets at midnight Eastern Time (EST / UTC-5). A new puzzle becomes available at that moment for every player worldwide. If you're outside the US, midnight EST will fall at a different local time for you — for example, it's 5:00 AM GMT in London, or 9:30 AM IST in India. The in-game timer on the home screen always shows exactly how long until the next puzzle drops.
Q
Is there an iOS app?
Yes! ScrambleBoss is available on the Apple App Store. Search for “ScrambleBoss” or follow the download link on the homepage. Your account, streak, score history, and badges sync automatically between the web and the app — sign in with the same credentials and pick up exactly where you left off.
Q
How do I reset my password?
On the login page, click the Forgot Passwordlink below the sign-in form. Enter the email address associated with your account and we'll send you a reset link. The link expires after 24 hours, so use it promptly. If you don't see the email, check your spam folder — some mail providers filter automated emails.
Q
How do I delete my account?
You can permanently delete your account from the Settings page, which is accessible from your profile menu once you're signed in. Account deletion is permanent and immediately removes all of your scores, streak history, badges, and personal data from our servers. This action cannot be undone, so make sure you're certain before confirming. If you're a Boss Pass subscriber, canceling your subscription and deleting your account are two separate steps — you'll want to cancel billing before deleting.
